I've been learning all about SSDs but have done it while using the one in the title. And I've done lots of exactly the wrong thing with this low capacity (but plenty speedy) drive. Lots of formatting and using it as a clone target weekly and just using it too much. And I've recently learned that the only way to get an SSD back to 'factory fresh' state is to erase all the 'pages'. Not delete them or overwrite them, that's exactly the wrong thing to do, but a 'secure erase' as I've heard it called. I have a Dell Precision m6400 Covet and it won't allow some BIOS tweak one way to erase them calls for and I've read several non-confirmed ways to do it including a way to do the whole operation with CCleaner. Since I'm never going to return to spinning disks I figure it's time to learn the single most important maintenance task you can do. The drive's been used heavily for six months and I'm seeing very slight degradation of performance and it's time to get this done. Most of the procedures I've read are either rocket science or as simple as running a feature of CCleaner. I'm no computer expert by a long shot but do know a lot more than most people I know and can handle complicated tasks but avoid messing with the BIOS or registry. Erasing a disk's gotta be simpler than that. Any help or recommended links out there?
